Ludhiana, October 2

A man was stabbed at Chandar Nagar, Haibowal, for allegedly refusing to consume food that was prepared for “shraadh”. The Haibowal police on Friday booked a man, Jaswant Singh, of the same area in the alleged attempt-to-murder case.

In a complaint to the police, Ashwani Kumar Sharma of Chandar Nagar alleged that Jaswant Singh attacked his son, Anish Kumar, with a sharp-edged weapon on September 29. Anish Kumar is undergoing treatment at a hospital here.

He alleged that Anish was sitting at a cycle shop. Jaswant Singh brought food prepared for “shraadh” there. “Jaswant Singh asked Anish to consume “langar”, but Anish refused to take it. Thereafter, Jaswant started abusing my son and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon,” he alleged.

A case under Sections 307, 323, 324, 341 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against Jaswant Singh at the Haibowal police station. ASI Dilwarg Singh is investigating the case.
