Ludhiana, July 3

Two suicide cases have been reported in the district. While a married woman allegedly committed suicide due to dowry harassment, a youth consumed some poisonous substance because of mental torture inflicted by persons with whom he had a money dispute.

The Haibowal police have registered an abetment-to-suicide case against four financiers, namely Rajni of Kitchlu Nagar, Rikki Bedi, Sonu Malhotra and Rinku of Haibowal Kalan.

The complainant, Akashdeep Taneja of New Tagore Nagar told the police that he owned Manav Marbles at Sangam Palace Chowk. He had taken Rs 2.35 lakh from Rajni and Rs 75,000 from Rikki on interest. “I had cleared all dues with the suspects, still Rajni was demanding Rs 15 lakh and Rikki Rs 5 lakh. The other suspects were also mentally torturing me and my family. They visited our house to humiliate us in front of the neighbours and issued life threats,” alleged Taneja.

Unable to withstand the daily torture, his son went into depression. Last night, he consumed some poisonous substance. He was rushed to the DMCH where he died. The victim had left a suicide note in which he has blamed the four suspects for his extreme step. No arrest has been made yet.

Woman hangs self, husband arrested

Amandeep Kaur of Aero City flats, near Detwal village, hanged herself from the ceiling last night.

The Dakha police have registered a case of dowry death against her husband Bajrang Bansal, a gym trainer, his mother, two sisters and two brothers under section 304 B of the IPC. Bajrang has been arrested.

The deceased’s mother alleged that her daughter’s husband and other relatives had been torturing her for the want of dowry.
