Mass deworming drive for animals starts in Doraha
The Punjab Animal Husbandry Department kick-started a mass deworming campaign from Sarv Dharam Gaushala here today.
The department is distributing the deworming medicine for free among livestock farmers, at veterinary hospitals and at dispensaries across the state. The objective of the campaign is to improve the health of animals by making them free of intestinal worms, thereby improving the earnings of dairy farmers.
Dr Amrik Singh, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Ludhiana, and Dr Darshan Kheri, Senior Veterinary Officer, Payal, shared that deworming was important as the Punjab Government was set to launch a foot-and-mouth disease vaccination campaign from April 15. “Deworming the animals before vaccination will enhance the effectiveness of the vaccine,” he added. He urged livestock farmers in the area to take the maximum advantage of this people-friendly scheme of the Punjab Government. He also urged them to get their cows and buffaloes vaccinated against the dreaded foot-and-mouth disease which would be administered door-to-door by the department free of cost.
Dr Kheri shared that the medicine could be obtained from the department’s hospitals and dispensaries without any prescription fee and livestock farmers should contact their local veterinary officer or veterinary inspector.
On this occasion, he instructed the entire veterinary staff to ensure the campaign reached every household so that no animal was left without the medicine. Local veterinary officer Dr Prabal Gautam and senior veterinary inspector Gurjit Singh were also present on the occasion.
