Men’s basketball team lauded for retaining National Games title
The Punjab Basketball Association (PBA) has congratulated the state’s men’s team on their title win in the 38th National Games at Uttarakhand. Competitions in basketball were held at Dehradun, wherein Punjab emerged champions on Sunday for the second year in a row.
This victory marks the team’s successful defence of their title, which they previously won at Goa during the last edition of the games.
The Punjab team, led by international Amjyot Singh, stamped its authority by outperforming their opponents to clinch the title. In the league matches, Punjab’s players outplayed Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi to storm into the semifinal.
With international stars like Amritpal, Palpreet, Gurbaz, and Princepal, besides captain Amjyot in its ranks, Punjab outnumbered Services 91-58 to secure a berth in the final against their traditional rival Tamil Nadu. Punjab won the final verdict 80-64 to retain the title.
Teja Singh Dhaliwal, honorary general secretary, PBA, and its other office-bearers praised the team’s exceptional performance. They expressed pride in the team’s achievement, which brought glory to the state.
“Players have demonstrated remarkable consistency and skill, and their back-to-back title wins are a testament to their excellence. The PBA’s recognition of the team’s achievement serves as a motivation for the future generations of basketball players in Punjab,” said Dhaliwal.
