Ludhiana, February 18

Visitors were a harried lot on Monday too as strike of the ministerial staff at various government offices continued on the sixth day. The ministerial staff at the offices of the district administration, civil surgeon and other departments had gone on a pen-down strike on February 13.

Visitors said they were asked to come later as employees had extended their strike. Employees were either not on their chair or did not work, they added.

“I had come for my land related work, but the staff asked me to come after three days as the strike has been extended. It is sheer harassment of visitors for the past one week, but our government has failed to pay any attention. It should take concrete measures to resolve the issues and ask the staff concerned to perform their duty,” said a visitor at the Mini Secretariat.

The Punjab State Ministerial Services Union had announced to go on a pen-down strike from February 13. Now, the union has extended the ongoing strike till February 21. Union members have been demanding early release of DA installments, arrears and implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission.

Meanwhile, Parkash Singh of the DC Office Employees Union could not be contacted for his comments.
