The Department of Public Instructions (Secondary Education) on Thursday released a circular on the follow up on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ministry of Human Resource Development for implementing cleaning the river Ganga.
The MHRD had written to principal secretaries (education) of all states and UTs on May 3 regarding the follow up on the signed MoU. The schools have been asked to adopt parameters of cleanliness required in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for sustaining water, sanitation and hygiene as per the local requirement and need for promoting a safe and hygienic school environment. The SOP was distributed during the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2016-2017 ceremony held last year.
The SOP contains safe handling of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, food hygiene, waste management, menstrual health management, and daily maintenance. The schools have been told to translate SOP in regional language for better understanding.
Three schools in list
Out of 40 entries sent by the state’s Education Department for national level Swachh Vidayalya Puruskar 2016-17, only three state schools made it to 172 schools selected by the MHRD. Government Primary School in Burj Hari Singh village of Ludhiana district was among the three state schools
