A 17-year-old girl hanged herself from a ceiling fan at Ambedkar Colony here on Thursday night.

Some residents raised suspicion over the death of the girl and informed the police. Following which, the police stopped the cremation and took the body into their custody.

The deceased was identified as Neha. She hanged herself from the ceiling fan. On getting information about the incident, the family took her to a nearest hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

ASI Sita Ram said the police were informed by residents that the girl had died under mysterious circumstances and a probe should be conducted. Accordingly, a police team reached the house of the girl and did not allow the kin to cremate her. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital where the autopsy of the girl would be conducted. If the post-mortem report will signal any other reason behind her death, the police would take action accordingly. So far, inquest proceedings were initiated in the case. As per family, the deceased was in depression.
