Daughter of a Ludhiana policeman, Tajinder Singh, who works as naib reader, was found dead in a canal near Issewal village today. Twenty-year-old Simarjot Kaur had been missing since September 12.
According to the police, Simarjot, who studied at GGN Khalsa College, had gone to the college on September 12 on her scooter but didn’t return home. Her family had lodged a missing person complaint with the Sadar police. A case under Section 346, IPC, was registered.
Two days ago, the police had recovered the girl’s scooter from near the canal in Dugri.
This evening, the police came to know that the body of a girl was noticed in the canal at Issewal village. It was later identified as that of Simarjot.
During investigation, the police came to know that on September 12 after the girl had left home for her college, she went to her friend Rahul’s house in Dugri, from where both went to the Orient cinema. They watched two movies back to back.
In the cinema, the boy and the girl had arguments over some issue, following which she left the cinema leaving the boy there. In the evening, the girl went to her friend’s house where she stayed for an hour. But she didn’t arrive at home, following which a missing person complaint was lodged with the police.
The boy and the girl have been classmates in school.
Additional DCP 2 Jaskaranjit Singh Teja said it seemed the girl had committed suicide but only the post-mortem report could confirm the exact cause of her death.
