Ludhiana: Two mobile phones were recovered from two inmates of the Ludhiana Central Jail. The inmates have been identified as Baldev Singh, a resident of Kapurthala, and Bhanu Pratap, a resident of Kakowal village.

Youth goes missing

Sumit, a 28-year-old resident of Pritam Nagar, went missing under mysterious circumstances. Complainant Rajni told the police that on August 8, his son, who was working as a storekeeper at Hotel Friends Residency, did not return home after work. She suspected that her son could have been kept under illegal confinement by some unknown persons. TNS

Six arrested for ‘car-o-bar’

Taking strict action against the practice of car-o-bar, habit of consuming liquor in cars, the police have registered two cases after catching car-borne occupants red-handed. In the first case, the Dugri police nabbed three persons - Ramkesh of Chimni road, Ram Niwas of India colony and Chandar Parkash of UP - while consuming alcohol in their car. The trio had parked their car at the Dugri Chowk. In another case, the Sarabha Nagar police nabbed three persons - Harwinder Singh of Lakkar Bazaar, Varun Sharma of Kashish Enclave and Ritesh Jindal of Civil Lines, who were consuming liquor in their BMW car parked in Rajguru Nagar. Though the police had impounded the car, the accused were released on bail. TNS

Two held with illegal weapon

The Division 4 Police nabbed two youths and recovered an illegal weapon and live cartridges from them. The accused have been identified as Shiva Bhatti of Kila Mohalla, and Roman Kumar of Thaper Mohalla. Investigation Officer ASI Shamsher Singh said after getting secret information, a naka was laid on the road in Shivpuri. The accused, who were riding on a motorcycle, were stopped for checking. During the search, the police recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol, 3 live cartridges and a sharp weapon. TNS
