Thieves decamped with mobile phones and other electronic goods worth several lakhs from a shop at Hambran on Friday. The entire theft has been captured by the CCTV cameras and the police are trying to identify the thieves.
So far, the police have registered a case against unknown persons.
Shekhar Gupta, owner of Kalyani Communications, said he shut the showroom in routine on Friday night. When he came to open the showroom in the morning, he was shocked to see the locks on the shutter broken.
Gupta said the entire theft was captured by the CCTV cameras installed in the showroom. The thieves broke a few cameras and also tried to locate the digital video recorder (DVR).
The thieves came on a motorcycle. They had brought sacks to be filled with the stolen goods. Since their faces were covered, they could not be identified, said ASI Manjit Singh, in charge of the Hambran police post.
The owner claimed that the thieves had decamped with a large number of mobile phones, one laptop and one LED set, the value of which could be about Rs 20 lakh. However, the ASI said the exact loss was yet to be assessed by the showroom owner.
The ASI said loss in the theft could be of about Rs 5 lakh. If the owner gives more details of the stolen goods with proper records in a supplementary statement, the police would mention the detail accordingly in the FIR.
