Mother, son hang from same fan in Ludhiana

A woman and her son allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from a ceiling fan at their residence in Satguru Nagar, Daba, last night.

The deceased have been identified as Krishna Devi (65) and her son Manish Verma (35). Both hanged themselves from the same fan. A few days ago, Manish’s wife had died of some illness.

The incident came to light when the landlord became suspicious on noticing no activity in Manish’s room and he peeped inside through a window. He was shocked to found both hanging from the ceiling fan. He informed the Daba police. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Daba SHO Pavitar Singh said the mother-son duo had been living in the rented room for the past two years. A few days ago, Manish’s wife fell ill. She went to her parent’s home in Panchkula where she died.

Manish had lost his job due to the lockdown and he was under severe financial crunch. “Yesterday at 8.30 pm, the house owner became suspicious when he noticed no activity in the room. He peeped inside the room through a window and was shocked to see the bodies of both the woman and her son hanging from the ceiling fan,” the police official added.
