Movement to elect sarpanches unanimously launched

MANDI AHMEDGARH: With the intent to curb factionalism among leaders of various villages of the Ahmedgarh subdivision, legislator Surjit Singh Dhiman, has launched a movement to elect maximum number of sarpanches, unanimously.

With the intent to curb factionalism among leaders of various villages of the Ahmedgarh subdivision, legislator Surjit Singh Dhiman, has launched a movement to elect maximum number of sarpanches, unanimously.

Besides ensuring smooth functioning of the civic bodies, the tendency would also fetch extra grants being announced by the government from time to time. Office-bearers and activists of social and religious organisations, besides regional political leaders, have been roped in for persuading probable candidates to arrive at consensus at their respective villages.

Addressing a meeting held at a local town and surrounding localities, MLA Surjit Singh Dhiman claimed that local leaders at various villages of the segment had shown inclination to elect their representatives unanimously. Dhiman said villagers in general and farmers in particular were highly appreciative of policies, including loan waiver, launched by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

“As the economy of the state ultimately depends on the financial position of farmers, people are convinced that waiver of loans worth over Rs 3,500 crore have benefited all sections of society,” said Dhiman maintaining that commercial bank loans of around one lakh farmers and cooperative bank loans of 3,15,000 small farmers were waived as promised by the CM.
