The Municipal Corporation (MC) held the e-auction of various parking lots in the city today.
The five parking lots of the Feroze Gandhi market were auctioned at around Rs 1.16 crore, while the multi-level parking lot near Mata Rani Chowk was auctioned at Rs 1.03 crore (20% night charges extra).
Besides, the parking lots at Bhadaur House and outside the AC market were auctioned at around Rs 30 lakh, BRS Nagar near Orient Cinema at around Rs 20 lakh and Sarabha Nagar I-Block at about Rs 4.30 lakh, said Neeraj Jain, a zonal commissioner.
The visitors will have to pay fixed parking fee to the successful contractor at the auctioned parking lots. It is learnt that the contractors had not placed any bid for the auction of the parking lot at the Tuition market at the Model Town Extension.
Meanwhile, the Feroze Gandhi Market Association had opposed the MC’s e-auction of the Feroze Gandhi market parking lots. The market association had demanded from the civic body to mark the fire lanes, parking area and no parking zones. They were also demanding from the MC to take the required steps to construct the footpaths and decongest the parking lots of the market before conducting the auction of the parking lots.
“In the past, mostly parking contractors used to charge illegal fee from the visitors for parking vehicles on roadside or road portion at the Feroze Gandhi market but they were supposed to charge fee only at the designated parking lots. But, the MC had never acted against such erring contractors,” said a shopkeeper.
