Need to identify one’s values, strengths, says psychologist

LUDHIANA: The Society of Psychology Students of Government College for Girls organised a declamation and collage-making competition.

The Society of Psychology Students of Government College for Girls organised a declamation and collage-making competition.

Students participated in various activites, including gratitude, happiness, emotions, depression and mental health issues.

The highlight of the event was a short play on the theme “Love Yourself” inspired by the UNICEF campaign of “Love Myself”. The play showcased an identity crisis happening due to social media which prompts one to assume fake and self-defeating dispositions.

Dr DJ Singh, a consultant psychologist and former Joint Director, Punjab Police Training Academy, Philaur, was the chief guest and a keynote speaker on the occasion.

Dr Singh exhorted the students to understand themselves. He said the first step to gain a good understanding of one’s self is to identify one’s values and strengths.

Savita Sharma, principal of the college presided over the event.

Sharma said positive thinking can create real value in life and a positive attitude helps to cope more easily with daily affairs of life.

She lauded the students and staff of the psychology deparment for organising the event.

  • Second: Neha Sharma and Karandeep Kaur (BA, first semester)
  • Third: Brahamjot Kaur and Gunreet Kaur (BA, second semester)
  • Consolation: Garima Khurana and Aashima Sharma (BA, third semester) and Mannat Kunra and Trisha Kohli (BA, second semester)

Declamation contest

  • First: Brahamjot Kaur (BA, second semester)
  • Second: Anayat Sodhi (BA, third semester)
  • Third: Darpan Kaur Aulakh (BA, second semester)
  • Consolation: Sakshi Grover (BA, third semester)
