New book focuses on future of agriculture in digital times
Authored by Jastinder Kaur and Raj Sinha, released by PAU V-C SS Gosal
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Vice-Chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal on Friday released a book focusing on the future of agriculture in digital times.
The book titled “The Farmer’s Databank: A Comprehensive Guide to Agriculture Informatics” has been authored by Jastinder Kaur and Raj Sinha.
Puneet Jindal, Head of the Department of Computer Applications, Ludhiana College of Engineering and Technology, said this is Kaur’s first international book.
She is a research scholar in the Department of Computer Science at Jyoti Vidyapeeth Women’s University, Jaipur, and is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Applications at Ludhiana College of Engineering and Technology, Katani Kalan.
Co-author Raj Sinha is working as Assistant Professor at Faculty of IT and Computer Science Department, Parul University, Vadodara, Gujarat.
Praising the author, V-C Gosal said this book teaches farmers that data, like seeds and water, is an essential component of agriculture, and outlines a roadmap for the future of farming.
Tarseem Singh Dhillon, Additional Director of Extension Education at PAU, said the book’s first part explains the true importance of precision farming.
Mahesh Kumar, Assistant Director of Research (Agricultural Engineering), said forecasting market prices and crop yields helps increase farmers’ income, and this has been explained in detail in the book.
“The book teaches us how even a mobile phone can become a tool for agriculture. It serves as a complete syllabus for students and a practical guide for farmers,” said JM Singh, Head of the Department of Economics and Sociology.
