NHAI’s toll collection Rs 56K cr in 2023-24, says Gadkari

The user fee collection at toll plazas on national highways has increased manifold (103.17%) during the last five years. As per the data provided by the Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Jairam Gadkari, the user fee collection at fee plazas on NHs for the past five years is: 2019-20 (Rs 27,503.86 cr), 2020-21 (Rs 27,926.67 cr), 2021-22 (Rs 33,928.66 cr), 2022-23 (Rs 48,032.40 cr) and 2023-24 (Rs 55,882.12 cr).

MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana Sanjeev Arora had asked questions on the number of toll plazas on NHs, along with the annual revenue generated as of 2024 in the ongoing winter session and how this had changed in the past five years. He had also asked about the percentage increase in vehicles using the electronic toll collection systems in the past two years and its impact on the average toll plaza wait time and traffic congestion.

Arora said here today that the minister said that as of October 2024, there were 1,015 user fee plazas operational on NHs. “The government has declared all lanes of the toll plazas as “Fastag lanes” with effect from the midnight of February 15, 2021, which had improved the overall efficiency of user fee collection,” the minister added.

He further said that the finding of the above study reflected that the average waiting time at fee plazas had been reduced from 734 seconds to 47 seconds for financial year 2022.
