While violations are rampant at most parking lots in the city, the authorities concerned are in a deep slumber. Despite repeated demands of activists and market associations, no monitoring committee has been formed to keep a check on violations at the parking lots.
Visitors often report fleecing or other violations at most parking lots under the Municipal Corporation, District Administration and other departments. They blamed the authorities concerned for ignoring overcharging and harassment of visitors at the parking lots.
A 45-year-old resident, Jagdish, was forced to pay more than the parking fee at the multi-storey parking which is located just near the office of Deputy Commissioner at Mini-Secretariat. “I am very surprised that the authorities don’t pay any attention to check violations at the parking lot. If the parking services are provided to the public, it is the responsibility of the authorities to stop fleecing too,” he said.
Even two months after allocating parking lots to contractors, the MC has failed to check these violations. No CCTV cameras have been installed at a number of parking lots.
The Feroze Gandhi Market Association has also been demanding constitution of a monitoring committee. Tehbazari wing in-charge Neeraj Jain said: “We have received no request for formation of any such committee. However, we will look into the matter.”
