Ludhiana, February 25

Interrogation of suspended sub-inspector Amandeep Singh Gill, who was nabbed by the local STF with heroin and opium, has found that no senior police official was involved in the drug network. The accused SI was allegedly running his own network with the connivance of dismissed head constable Balbir Singh, his driver Ajay and other notorious persons.

We are now scanning the bank accounts and assets of Amandeep. If those were found to be amassed from drug money, then the STF might write to the authorities for their seizure.

The suspended SI was the SHO of Division 2.

Harbans Singh, chief of Ludhiana STF wing, told The Tribune that in the investigation so far, the accused SI had named no senior official of the Ludhiana police, and it seemed he was running his own network involving a dismissed policeman and some private persons.

“We are now scanning the bank accounts and assets of Amandeep. If those were found to be amassed from drug money, then the STF might write to the authorities for their seizure,” Said Harbans.

Meanwhile, the STF nabbed three of the five persons who were freed by the Amandeep as SHO after taking bribe and seizing 10 gram of heroin from their possession. Today, the STF recovered 12 gram of heroin from one of them, identified as Satbir Singh (29) of Jassowal. The two others, namely Gaganpreet Singh Gagna (24) and Harpreet Singh Peeta (33) of Patti Jalal, Dakha, were also arrested.

Harbans said during interrogation, Amandeep had admitted that he had freed the three accused after receiving bribe and 10 gram of heroin from them.

Satbir had come out of the Central Jail on bail after spending eight years in a murder case. Gagna is a farmer and already faces three cases of loot, fight, etc. Peeta, who is also a farmer, also faces two cases of rape and theft.

On February 18, Amandeep (39) was arrested by the STF wing with 10.35 gram of heroin he had recovered from five criminals. The criminals were later let off by the SHO after taking a few thousands from them as bribe. However, the former SHO kept the heroin recovered from the five, and asked them to bring more money, only then he would release their Swift car and six mobile phones.
