Ludhiana, January 15
In just five days, the third case of a minor girl’s rape has been reported in the city. A 20-year-old boy was caught by the girl’s father while he was raping the five-year-old child in the bushes near the Jawaddi bridge.
The accused has been identified as Pardeep Kumar, a native of Bihar and at present residing at Parkash Nagar, Choti Jawaddi. He works at a plastic box-manufacturing factory. The victim’s father, who is also a migrant, works at a private school.
The investigating officer from Model Town police station, ASI Varinder Singh, said on January 14, Pardeep, who lives in the same ‘vehra’ (a place where mostly migrants live in small rooms) as the victim, made the girl accompany him by promising her to buy eatables. When they reached a secluded place, he pushed the girl behind bushes and started raping her.
Meanwhile, the girl’s father, who was searching for her, reached there and saw Pardeep rape her daughter behind the bushes. He raised the alarm and people nabbed the accused, said the ASI. “After we received a call from Control Room, I reached the spot and arrested the accused. He was produced before the court today that sent him to judicial custody,” said the ASI.
