Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma has given instructions to district administration officials, sand contractors, shopkeepers and others concerned to make sure that the sand should be sold to the people at the price fixed by the state government. The state government has fixed sand rate of Rs5.50 per cubic foot.

At a meeting with officials, sand contractors, ruck unions and tipper associations’ members, retailers and others the DC made it clear that, “If anyone sells sand at a price higher than that fixed by the Punjab Government, strict action will be taken against him.” “If any person had any problem, he should contact District Mining Officer Harjot Singh Walia. The SDM concerned or the police can also be contacted. A complaint can also be registered on the mining portal,” he added. — TNS
