Though the woman, identified as Harjind Kaur Mangat, did not lodge any complaint, the police had launched a probe on the basis of reports on social media regarding the incident.

Some unidentified miscreants had tried to rob the victim and two other women, who were travelling in a car, by throwing egg on the windscreen of the vehicle on a deserted link road on the outskirts of Ludhiana late on Friday evening.

The NRI woman is seen challenging the suspects with a sword in her hand after coming out of the vehicle while another elderly woman, who was making a video of the incident, was heard stopping her from following the miscreants.

The elderly woman said she had already cautioned not to travel on deserted roads at night and the miscreants could have robbed them. She called the NRI woman to return as the miscreants had fled the scene.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Harjinder Singh Gill said police officials, led by the Dehlon SHO, had apprehended two suspects on the basis of information provided by the NRI.

“Though the incident was not occurred in any area falling under the jurisdiction of the Dehlon police, we initiated a probe after receiving information about the viral video mentioning the Dehlon area, and nabbed two persons on the basis of information provided by the woman,” he said.

He said the police were taking the case seriously as the woman was an NRI and her social media accounts show that she was also a philanthropist, Gill said.
