While the sacrifice of Pulwama attack martyrs remained absent from election campaign of candidates for Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana and Sangrur constituencies, a group of NRIs of the region settled in Canada are chipping in help for the families of four CRPF Jawans from Punjab who were killed in the attack.

The NRIs, led by Dr Sanjiv Ahluwalia, have raised funds worth Rs 6.53 lakh for the families of Maninder Attri of Dina Nagar, Jarnail Singh of Ghaloti village in Dharamkot district, Sukhjinder Singh of Gandiwindi in Tarn Taran district and Kulwinder Singh of Rauli village in Anandpur Sahib district.

Drafts worth 3,100 Canadian dollars each will be handed over to the next of kin of the martyrs during a function to be held soon.

Dr Sanjiv Ahluwalia, an alumnus of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, said a sum of 12,500 Canadian dollars was raised for the noble cause with the help of NRIs who have been undertaking such projects in the past too.

“We have dispatched four drafts worth 3,100 Canadian dollars each in favour of the next of kin of the martyrs and same would be handed over to the families concerned during a small function to be held soon. Punjab Mandi Board Secretary Kamaldeep Singh Sangha has consented to organise and chair the proposed function,” said Dr Ahluwalia.
