Observe safety norms in spirit to keep virus at bay

How to ensure compliance with precautionary measures related to Covid?

To ensure that each and every individual follows Covid-related precautions, the central government should be more

strict about to the use of mask. Anyone roaming without a mask should be fined. Free masks and sanitisers should be distributed among the poor. Roadside plays with proper safety measures should be organised so that people get to know about the importance of measures to be taken. Factory/shop owners should paste a poster on their premises saying "No entry without mask". Television programmes should also raise awareness in this regard.

Ensure no laxity in precautions

Covid-19 is a fatal disease and it should not be taken lightly. To keep the disease at bay, clean your hands with soap or use sanitiser regularly. Wear a protective mask while standing in a crowd. It must be ensured that the mask is covering your nose and mouth properly. Avoid social gatherings. If not possible then maintain a safe distance from everyone. Before touching your eyes and face your hands must be cleaned. Those who don't follow the rules, must be fined by the police. A little step towards precautionary measures can make our future safe and secure.

Fine violators

First of all, heavy fine should be imposed on violators who don't follow Covid-related precautions. Secondly, authorities concerned should advertise the precautions as much as possible. Thirdly, elderly and already sick people should avoid gatherings to keep themselves safe.

Ban pillion riders

The number of Covid-19 cases are rising day by day. This is a very alarming situation for city residents. The local government with the assistance of the police should ensure that senior citizens and pregnant women must stay at home. The police must challan those who do not maintain social distance and are not wearing mask at public places. In each office and establishment, provisions of handwashing/sanitiser and thermal checking should be made mandatory. Those shopkeepers who are allowing customers without masks should be punished and they should not be allowed to open shop at least for three days. Local administration must have some barricades to check the violations of norms. Survelliance with the help of drones may be monitored in some congested public places. There should be a complete ban on pillion riders. People must cooperate with the government to put a curb on the spread of Covid-19 by following the norms.

Police can play key role

To ensure the implementation of precautionary measures related to Covid, the police can play an instrumental role. The police must strictly watch that everyone has a protective mask on their face, catch defaulters and punish them. No one should be allowed to arrange mass gatherings in public. Legal proceedings must be initiated against all such defaulters, sparing no one and brought to book and punished. The responsibility for the third recommended measure viz. frequent washing of hands with soap rests on the individual and all must follow it religiously to save them from Covid-19. Also, to ensure that all these preventable measures are followed, educational programmes must be started both by the police and other social organisations in the city. Further, these measures must be given a wide publicity through newspapers and the social media.

Become a Covid warrior

No fine or fear of punishment can assure that people will take proper precautions against Covid-19. Create awareness regarding the ramifications of the disease, so that they follow precautionary measures voluntarily not out of fear. This could be done through social media platform by circulating informative videos. Unless and until people themselves stand against the pandemic, nothing could ensure that there is no laxity in following safety measures related to Covid-19. The time has come to be a self-warrior.

Don't let your guard down

Citizens must not lower their guard as far as the pandemic is concerned. We must realise the severity of the situation. Marriages, religious functions etc. are important but not at the cost of our lives. There must be limited number of guests for these types of occasions and standard operating procedures must be followed in letter and spirit. The enforcing agencies, especially the police must get stricter with those who do not follow precautionary measures related to Covid-19 such as wearing a mask, maintaining physical distancing etc. CM Capt Amarinder Singh has been requesting us time and again to follow all Covid-19 related guidelines, but we have turned a deaf ear to his requests. Remember the battle against Covid-19 cannot be won without the support of citizens.

Divide city into different zones

Our country has witnessed over 88 lakh Covid-19 cases. To ensure implementation of norms, the local governments should form a concrete policy and implement it area or zone wise. The city must be divided into different pockets and in each pocket; there must a nodal office which must release the instruction as per the need and requirement of that area. There must be a ban on the free movement of people except in emergency cases. Heavy fines should be imposed on those who don't wear mask. Nobody should be allowed to move or enter any shop without wearing a mask and getting his/her hands sanitised. Each one must keep social distancing in public places and the local government should deploy volunteers who are ready to assist. They must depute one person at street level to check the undesired movement of people and they must authorise to issue challan to violators. Instructions about measures to be taken about Covid-19 along with norms must be displayed on the entry of each street.

Conduct surprise checks

Government is issuing notifications from time to time to prevent the spread of Covid-19, but the toughest task before the government is to make sure that all the rules and regulations are duly complied with. Ensuring compliance of precautionary measures, related to Covid-19 is a daunting task before the government and for us. No doubt, for strict implementation of rules government is imposing various types of penalties on violators. There is a need to do something extra. Government should assign duties to police, volunteers and marshalls and divide the areas to them for surprise checking. Fear of surprise checking will make all vigilant about the hygienic conditions of their work places. The government should ensure that basic necessities such as sanitisers and masks should be provided to the needy free of cost.

Boost your immunity

The government should instruct local administrators not to become complacent and rather become more vigilant and strict with the masses who are not adhering to the precautionary measures suggested by ICMR and Ministry of Health. All doctors, health workers and law enforcing agencies should aware the public about wearing a mask, frequent handwashing and physical distancing norms. All of us must strive to enhance our immunity by regularly taking vit C, D and zinc supplements. These must be distributed free of cost to the poor.

OPEN HOUSE COMMENT

Self-restriction, punitive action can curb spread

Minna Zutshi

Covid-19 cases are spiralling in Delhi. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has warned that the experience of the NCR and other states/regions shows that the second wave is an almost certain eventuality. As the CM has stressed, it is also the “responsibility of the people to actively partner the state in the fight against the pandemic by strictly following all safety norms”.

The people, on their part, should avoid crowded places and large gatherings. Washing hands and wearing mask are imperative.

Another very important precaution is to avoid crowded places and not have large gatherings and social functions, he stressed the need to observe precautions, especially washing hands and wearing masks. In fact, ‘Mask hi vaccine hai’ is the resolve of Mission Fateh for the next few months, till a vaccine against Covid comes.

To make the people adhere to the precautionary measures, a punitive action against those who do not follow the precautions becomes necessary.

But the best solution is self-restriction. The people should avoid crowded places. This is for their own well-being and also for the well-being of all.
