Officials deputed on election duty for the Lok Sabha election in the Amargarh Assembly segment and Ahmedgarh subdivision of Sangrur district have been imparted training by experts in various avenues of the democratic process during a rehearsal session held at Kup Kalan near here.

Those absent in the first session of the training programme have been issued notices, according to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

The administration has also made enough arrangements to prevent any inconvenience, normally caused to electioneering personnel during such processes.

Authorities at toll plazas situated on highways passing through the constituency have been advised to exempt toll tax to employees commuting in connection with election duties on production of identity cards issued by the Ahmedgarh subdivision office.

Sources said officials deputed on election duty at various booths in the Amargarh constituency were imparted training during a rehearsal session held at a marriage palace situated at Kup Kalan village on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla highway near here.

Though a majority of officials performed to the satisfaction of their seniors, some failed to attend the rehearsal programme.

Taking serious notice of the tendency to ignore instructions of their respective assistant election officers, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Sangrur, Ghanshyam Thori issued notices to 291 officials.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Election Officer-cum-Sub-Divisional Magistrate at Ahmedgarh, Vikramjeet Singh Panthey, claimed to have made extra arrangements for prevention of inconvenience, which is normally caused to officials on election duty on such occasions.

“Besides making sufficient transportation arrangements, we have advised the officials concerned to ensure that standard civic amenities are available at all polling stations and booths,” said Panthey, confirming that the authorities at toll plazas at Lehra, Mahorana and Kalyan had been advised to exempt toll tax to officials on election duty. Identity cards have been issued for the purpose, claimed Panthey.
