Ludhiana, December 24
Recurrent traffic snarls at Samrala Chowk, one of the busiest junctions in Ludhiana, has finally attracted the attention of officials.
Non-functional traffic signals and absence of traffic cops at the chowk, which joins Jalandhar-Chandigarh-Ludhiana bypass, Jalandhar-Delhi-Ludhiana bypass, besides exit and entrance from city to the highway results in major traffic congestion and mishaps at the major junction here.
Taking note of the problem, Sanjay Talwar, MLA, Ludhiana (East), along with Neeru Katyal Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jagraon, on Thursday held on-site discussions with the civil and police officials concerned at the Samrala chowk junction to solve the traffic issue here.
During the meeting, the officials discussed issues, including land acquisition, entry-exit to bypass road and widening of service lanes.
MLA Sanjay Talwar asked the officials to see the feasibility to give direct access from Transport Nagar to bypass bridge so that heavy vehicles need not enter the city, which leads to traffic jam. He also asked for a slipway road from Transport Nagar to link road, connecting the city. — TNS
