The police have arrested a person after 25 boxes of illicit liquor was recovered from a car. The police said the liquor was meant for sale in Haryana.
The police said one of the accused managed to escape from the spot. The car in which the illicit liquor was recovered has been impounded.
The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Patiala district. He was driving the car while his associate has been identified as Bittu of Patiala district, who managed to give the police the slip.
Addressing a press conference, Dhruv Dahiya, Senior Superintendent of Police, Khanna, said, “The police had laid a naka near the Bhadewal Canal Bridge police station in Payal. During a checking, the police recovered the illicit liquor from a car, which was coming from the Bhadewal village side. After seeing the police, one of the accused came out of the car and fled. His associate was arrested.”
A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said Bittu would be arrested soon.
