Ludhiana, June 16
A 65-year-old resident of Basti Jodhewal today succumbed to Covid-19 at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) this afternoon. With his death, the number or deaths due to Covid in Ludhiana district has gone to 13.
“The patient was having difficulty in breathing and had been running fever for the past five days. He was admitted to the hospital today, tested positive and later died,” said Dr Ashwani Chaudhary, MS of DMCH.
A senior railway official from Delhi, who was posted at Ferozepur railway station, also died of Covid infection.
Meanwhile, 26 more positive cases were reported in the district, of which one is from Hoshiarpur district. Thirteen of them are contacts of Covid patients. They include five residents of the containment zone of Chawni Mohalla, three of Sahnewal and one of Khanna. The others are from Habib Ganj, Daba Lohara Road and Islamia School Road.
A Sub-inspector of the Shimlapuri police station also tested positive. He is having fever and had travelled to Delhi.
A 71-year-old woman from Jagraon admitted to Deepak Hospital, a 65-year-old man from Basti Jodhewal admitted to the DMCH, and a 42-year-old man from Guru Nanak Dev Nagar also tested positive for Covid. They all have influenza-like illness.
The patients with travel history to Delhi include a woman from Chhandran village, Doraha; a youth from Hoshiarpur and two women from Bindra Colony.
A 22-year-old youth from Baba Vishnu Samadhi, Truck Union, Sahnewal, a man from Gujjar Colony, Rahon Road; a 29-year-old man from DMC Hostel, and a 38-year-old woman from BRS Nagar tested positive at the DMCH.
