The regular online teaching for all new admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses may start from September 1 as per the new guidelines issued by Panjab University to all its affiliated colleges and regional centres.

Admission process for those UG courses, offered by the PU teaching departments, regional centres, affiliated colleges only, where admission is made on the basis of merit, may be started in August and online classes of such courses be started from September 1.

It has been specified in the circular issued by the university that there would be no aptitude test in admission to BSc Fashion Technology and BA and B.Ed courses. The admission would be based on marks of Class XII.

The university has further provided the time schedule for the online teaching of classes. As per the university instructions, there would be total four hours of teaching per day comprising five periods up to 45 minutes or one hour each. First period of 45-minute duration would be for preparation of teaching material and arrangement of online set up by all faculty members as per time table i.e from 9 am to 9.45 am. Second period (9.45 am to 10.30 am) third period (10.45 am to 11.30 am) and fourth period (11.45 to 12.30) would be taken continuously (online) for each class as per the time table. Fifth period (3 to 4 pm) would be for resolving queries or doubts over phone or WhatsApp or any other mechanism as per suitability of the teacher. This period will serve as tutorial, practical ,training and consultation.

One online class will comprise a maximum of 80 students. A nodal officer will be appointed for each department and affiliated college course wise who will monitor the entire online process and look into it to ensure students do not face any problem. He or she will address all grievances of the students related to online teaching and make necessary amendments to facilitate online teaching as much as possible.

Further, it has been instructed by the university that each and every teacher on his or her own level will act as a mentor for students and counsel them from time to time. It has been specifically done keeping in mind the fact that the students may face some teething problems in the beginning and they feel at home in the changed scenario. The teachers should counsel the students from time to time so that they start accepting things in a normal way.
