As compared to the last year, only 20 per cent licences for selling crackers will be issued this year after preliminary inquiry through the lottery system. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal.

He said those interested in taking licences for the sale of crackers can apply till 5 pm on October 26 and the licences would be issued at Bachat Bhawan at 2 pm on October 29.

He said for taking licences for area under the Police Commissionerate, Ludhiana, forms could be collected and submitted at the Licence Branch, Police Commissionerate Office, Ludhiana. Applications for the Khanna area can be deposited at the MA Branch, Deputy Commissioner Office.

He said as per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, fire crackers could be sold only at designated places. According to the DC, 37 licences will be issued for seven sites in Ludhiana and for one site in Khanna, three licenses will be issued.

In Ludhiana and Khanna Police Commissionerate, the sites are the Salem Tabri Grain Market (13), Sector 39 Chandigarh Road opposite Vardhman Mill (09), Model Town Extension (1), Pakhowal Road near Canal Bridge (4), Dugri Phase 1 GLADA Ground (4), Sub-Registrar Office opposite Haibowal (3), a private site near Lodhi Club (3) and vacant space adjoining Atwal Palace Khanna (03).

Agrawal said at the time of depositing the application, documents have to be deposited as mentioned in the checklist collected with the application form. He said in case the documents are found to be false, the application will be rejected.
