Op Prahar: Crackdown to continue in Malerkotla

Rank and file from all police stations under Malerkotla district have been advised to continue the crackdown that kicked off under ‘Operation Prahar 2.0’. Instructions were issued during the concluding session of the operation, during which hotspots under the Amargarh subdivision were searched after localities of Bagrian village were cordoned-off.

The police said they had initiated probes against 90 individuals who were detained in connection with separate cases and recovered substantial quantities of contrabands from their possession. The items recovered during the operation included 49 gm heroin, 70 habit-forming tablets, 50 bottles of illicit liquor, one motorcycle and some cash.

Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said the noose had been tightened around antisocial elements like drug peddlers and repeat offenders during the three-day crackdown in the region under the supervision of DGP Gaurav Yadav. About 200 police personnel, divided into 30 teams, conducted raids at predestined premises on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, arresting hardcore criminals and taking action against history sheeters during Operation Prahar 2.0. SP(H) Gursharan Sandhu, SP(D) Sat Pal Sharma and SP Rajwinder Singh Randhawa supervised the action conducted under the leadership of DSP Ahmedgarh Sukhdev Singh Brar, DSP Amargarh Sanjiv Kapoor and DSP Malerkotla Manavjit Singh Sidhu at localities within their respective jurisdictions.

The SSP said the Malerkotla district was committed to the ongoing fight against crime to provide the residents with a safe, secure and fear-free environment. “Though the present action has been undertaken according to a set protocol prescribed for state-level crackdown, we have advised our officers to continue such operations in the future to ensure that criminals find no shelter in the region,” said Singh.
