Opposition to G RAM G Act 'mere political student': Ludhiana BJP
BJP leaders SR Ladhar, Rajnish Dhiman hold presser
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader SR Ladhar and party’s district president Rajnish Dhiman on Friday raised questions over the aggressive opposition from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress to the VB-G RAM G Act.
They termed the opposition as “politically motivated and ethically hollow”.
Ladhar, also a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, said the Punjab Government “failed” to understand that a state Assembly can’t pass a resolution against a law enacted by the Parliament. “Such resolutions hold no constitutional or legal validity, and are merely a political stunt,” he said.
He said claims regarding budget cuts were completely false and misleading “The total budgetary provision under G RAM G exceeds Rs 1.51 lakh crore. This is not a decrease, but an increase as the mandatory contribution from state governments further inflates the total fund pool.”
Ladhar added that due to this robust funding, employment has been guaranteed for 125 days instead of 100. “If work is not provided within 15 days, an unemployment allowance is now payable,” Ladhar said.
He alleged that instead of supporting this well-intentioned and reformist initiative, the AAP and the Congress were “deliberately spreading confusion to protect their selfish and corrupt interests”. “They are misleading the public, especially the poor, and sending the wrong signals to corrupt and unscrupulous elements,” added Ladhar.
