A one-day karate camp was organised at Guru Nanak Girls Model School, Model Town, to motivate girls to take active part in this martial art.

The camp was conducted by a team from the Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management, Jhande village, in collaboration with Ashok Karate School. Over 100 students were trained during the camp.

A team of experts demonstrated various techniques of karate which could be useful in self-defense.

Shihan Ashok Chauhan, general secretary, Ludhiana District Karate Do Association, said: “Karate is one of the most widely practiced martial arts forms in the world. It relies on acute physical coordination and mental focus.”

“A variety of combat styles have been honed by experts and the modern karate is developed out of martial arts forms practiced across the world. By practicing karate, girls should keep their mental state strong in odd situations so that they can compete firmly with adversities,” he said.

Parminder Kaur, principal of the school, thanked the team to encourage students towards this form of martial arts and hoped that girls would be benefited. Gurleen, Nitish, Premavani, Shivansh and Shreya were other experts who demonstrated during the camp. — OC
