Over a dozen encroachments cleared outside DMCH, Ludhiana
Anti-encroachment drive jointly carried out by the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) and the traffic police
The authorities on Friday cleared over a dozen encroachments, including two makeshift taxi stands, outside Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, said officials.
They said the anti-encroachment drive, jointly carried out by the Municipal Corporation (MC) and the traffic police, was aimed at decongesting the road leading to the hospital and in turn, streamlining traffic movement.
According to the officials, the violators were strictly warned that strict legal action will be taken over any encroachments on the road portion.
The drive was led by MC zonal commissioner Jasdev Sekhon; Gurpreet Purewal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP traffic); and Gurdev Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Teams from all four MC zones were deployed during the drive, the officials said.
Sekhon and Purewal said the authorities have been receiving complaints regarding traffic jams in the area and reports of ambulances getting stuck due to encroachments have come to the fore as well. They said the drive was carried out keeping in mind the safety of patients and commuters.
