Residents of Basant Avenue are a harried lot due to poor sanitary conditions in the area. Sewers in the area are overflowing and dirty water gets accumuled in streets. Parks and roads are full of wild grass growth.
A number of dengue cases have been reported in the area. No steps have been taken to cut the wild grass growing in parks, plots and other parts of the area.
Residents said they had lodged complaints with the Basant Avenue panchayat, coloniser and the MLA concerned, but to no avail.
Col DS Grewal (retd), a resident, said: “Sewers are overflowing. Accumulated water is causing breeding of mosquitoes. No fogging is being conducted for preventing vector-borne diseases. It is a PUDA-approved colony but conditions are bad.”
“A number of dengue cases have been reported in the area. No steps have been taken to cut the wild grass growing in parks, plots and other parts of the areas. The woman sarpanch doesn’t visit the area to hear our grievances. We had also brought the matter to notice of MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid around 10 days ago, but in vain,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the behalf of the sarpanch, her husband Ajay Mehta said he had already talked to the colonizer and the panch concerned to do the needful. He said: “The coloniser informed me that the supervisor who looks after the maintenance works in the colony was suffering from Covid-19. The coloniser assured me that required steps will be taken soon.”
Despite repeated attempts, MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid could not be contacted.
