Even as the paddy procurement was being done in a staggered manner in the wake of the pandemic, the district has set a new record by purchasing over 83,000 metric tonnes (MT), while lifting over 75,000 MT crop from grain markets in a single day.

  • Officials said about 9.40 lakh MT of paddy has been procured in Ludhiana till October 28 this year against 7.30 lakh MT paddy procured till this day last year.
  • Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma congratulated the entire team for setting a new benchmark in purchasing and lifting the paddy crop while adhering to Covid-19 protocols. He said to ensure hassle-free procurement amid the pandemic, the administration had set up 403 mandis/sub-yards in the district.

As per the information, procurement agencies did a record purchase of 83,042 MT while lifting 75,010 MT of paddy crop on Wednesday. Officials said about 9.40 lakh MT of paddy has been procured in Ludhiana till October 28 this year against 7.30 lakh MT paddy procured till this day last year.

The Deputy Commissioner said to ensure smooth and hassle-free procurement amid the pandemic, the district administration had set up 403 mandis/sub-yards in the district. He also expressed satisfaction over the ongoing paddy procurement and appealed to farmers to bring produce within specifications of moisture content laid by the Centre.

Meanwhile, 4.77 lakh MT crop was procured the by PUNGRAIN, 2.02 lakh MT by the MARKFED, 1.81 lakh MT by the PUNSUP, 77,345 MT by Warehouse, 1,180 MT by the FCI, while 505 MT paddy was purchased by private players.

Sukhwinder Singh Gill, District Food Supply Controller (DFSC), Ludhiana West; Harveen Kaur, DFSC, Ludhiana East; Hardeep Singh Chahal, District Manager, MARKFED; Jagandeep Singh Dhillon, District Manager, PUNSUP; MP Singh, District Manager, Warehouse; Gangeshwar Gosain, District Manager, FCI, and Davinder Singh, District Mandi Officer, were present.
