After a two-year hiatus due to Covid pandemic, students appeared for offline exams conducted by Panjab University on Wednesday. Over the past two years, all semester examinations were held only in online mode due to the pandemic.

“I appeared in the offline mode in my first semester and now I am appearing in my last semester in the same mode. In between, all the four semesters went online. I was praying to God that I should be able to attempt at least my final semester exams offline. Initially, I found it difficult to fit into the things. In the first hour, my mind wavered and things seemed to fall apart. I felt as if I have forgotten how to attempt the exam. My teachers had to instruct me again and again to fill the blanks property. But steadily it became easier,” shared Seema of BSc (VI semester) who appeared for her physics exam today.

Sukhchain, a student of BA (IInd semester), said, “For those who had taken the first semester offline, the things were not that difficult but students like us had to cover a huge gap. In the college too, we had to initially take online exams. We were not at all well-versed with the system of offline exams. Though the college had conducted the mid-semester exams in the offline mode this time, appearing for final exams physically was thrilling. Today, we had our English paper, which I usually find difficult. I had a sleepless night but as I sat to attempt the paper, things seemed to be normal and I slowly gained pace.”

“Online mode may seem to be fascinating but the satisfaction you get by attempting the exams in the physical mode is much above that. You feel you have really been put to test when you appear physically as the whole environment is filled with that competitive spirit.  Moreover, isolation had begun to weigh heavy on our minds in the online mode. We simply missed that last minute reading together and discussing the paper after the exam. Offline mode carries an excitement which we can never be discovered sitting at homes,” shared Raman Katahari of BA 2nd semester.

“We have been saved from the stamp of being online exam attempters. Many of the job providers have begun to reject the candidates who have cleared their exams through online mode. This is very objectionable. Why should we be the sufferers? shared another candidate.

“Today, we got a number of queries, especially from the private students, whether the exams are going to held online or offline. Many a times the students fail to read the instructions properly. We have been informing the students time and again about the offline mode but some of them were still confused at the eleventh hour,” told the officiating principal, Guru Nanak National College Doraha, Dr Nirlep Kaur.
