To clear air over the ‘controversial’ agri Bills, Vikramjit Singh Cheema, president, Kisan Morcha, BJP, Punjab, said political parties were playing politics over the matter.
Cheema, however, refused to comment when asked that their own alliance partner Shiromani Akali Dal were against the Bills. “I can only say that before putting her resignation, Harsimrat Badal stood by the government on this issue. Now, why and at whose behest, she took the step of resigning. Only she can give the reason. But, I believe that Akalis will remain our alliance partners,” said Cheema.
Cheema claimed that nobody came forward when he sought suggestions from farmer leaders/organisations over the proposed Bills few months back. But now they have started protesting on roads, he added. “The government had given them an opportunity to suggest or raise the objections, if any, but unfortunately they believed in protests and not in dialogue,” he said.
