LUDHIANA: The two-day Pashu Palan Mela at the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) concluded on Friday. The Pashu Palan Mela sent a message to develop livestock farming as an effective option of diversification.

The two-day Pashu Palan Mela at the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) concluded on Friday. The Pashu Palan Mela sent a message to develop livestock farming as an effective option of diversification. Dr AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU said, “Besides delivering services to commercial farmers, the GADVASU is also disseminating all techniques to medium and lower category of livestock community to provide equal opportunities to farmers. It helps them to earn benefits with limited resources.”

Dr Harish Kumar Verma, Director of Extension Education said, “Some of our departments are providing services for rearing livestock others in the field of value addition of livestock products. These professions help farmers earn a handsome income. Women can do these professions comfortably along with their household responsibilities.” He revealed that ornamentals fish, aquarium making, flavoured milk and lassi, cheese, meat pickle, meat kofta, meat patties, meat balls and a number of fish delicacies come under these professions. Dr Verma said, “Young entrepreneur can earn good returns in goat and pig farming. The College of Dairy Science and Technology displayed about 30 value added products of milk. The Department of Livestock Products and Technology displayed about 35 value added products of different types of meat and eggs. The College of fisheries displayed 10 value added products of fish meat.”
