Patriotic spirit took over hearts and minds of the people as events were organised across the district to mark Republic Day.
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University celebrated Republic Day with patriotic fervour.
At the PAU, national ethos of upholding the democratic values, unity in diversity and an unwavering devotion to the motherland echoed during the event to mark the 77th Republic Day.
Unfurling the national flag amid grandeur, Vice-Chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Subhash Chandra Bose, BR Ambedkar as well as all those who laid their lives for India.
Gosal applauded the valour of the freedom fighters, and the scientists and the farmers for helping India shed the tag of “food deficit”.
At the event on the veterinary university campus, attendees were filled with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.
The celebrations brought together the faculty, students, staff and campus residents to honour the spirit of the Constitution and celebrate India’s diversity.
Imbibing patriotism and a commitment to national values, Vice Chancellor Jatinder Paul Singh Gill unfurled the national flag. He emphasised the role of all the martyrs in freedom struggle and significance of the Constitution.
He honoured 35 faculty members for their accomplishments in bagging research projects and academic excellence that helped in strengthening the role of the university as a centre of excellence in veterinary and animal sciences.
ESIC medical college
At the ESIC Medical College and Hospital, celebrations began with a march past by the security staff and the first year students, symbolising unity and national pride. Dean Dr Inder Prakash Pawar hoisted the national flag.
Medical superintendent Dr Aparajita Sophia D’souza said the strength of the nation lies not only in its borders, but also in the character of its citizens. She said our integrity, discipline and empathy will define the India of tomorrow.
BRS Nagar
Col Gulshan Khera hoisted the national flag during Republic Day celebrations at Goodwill Park in BRS Nagar. The event drew residents from the surrounding areas.
Addressing the gathering, Col Khera emphasised the importance of instilling patriotic values in the next generation and commended the community for coming together to celebrate the spirit of the nation.
The children of the locality enthralled the attendees with cultural performances.
Blessing Luxuria
At Blessing Luxuria of Western Living Private Limited, Himanshu Kwatra, chairperson and managing director, unfurled the national flag. The event was attended by the project’s leadership team, employees, channel partners and the children of the labour force.
After unfurling the national flag, Kwatra said true development is not limited to infrastructure and lies in uplifting communities, respecting human values and fostering unity across all sections of the society.
