Patwari arrested for accepting Rs 15,000 bribe at Payal in Ludhiana district
Had already taken first instalment of Rs 5,000 as graft from complainant
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended patwari Harkinder Singh posted at Revenue Office, Payal, Ludhiana district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
Giving information here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the accused was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by a Payal resident.
He said the accused patwari demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant in lieu of making correction in mutation of the complainant’s land. The accused patwari had already taken first instalment of Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant.
Unwilling to pay any illegal gratification, the complainant approached the VB Economic Offence Wing in Ludhiana. After a preliminary enquiry on his complaint, a VB team laid a trap during which the accused patwari was arrested red-handed while accepting bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the accused at the Economic Offence Wing, VB police station, Ludhiana, and further probe initiated into the matter.
