Ludhiana, March 7

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a non-exclusive pact with Nuziveedu Seeds Limited, Medchal Mandal, district Ranga Reddy, Telangana, for the commercialisation of pumpkin variety ‘Punjab Nawab’.

Navtej Singh Bains, director of research, PAU, and AS Shekhawat, general manager of breeding (Cole Crops), Nuziveedu Seeds Limited, signed the memorandum of agreement (MoA) on behalf of their respective organisations.

Bains said the MoA would facilitate dissemination of high yield and better quality varieties among the farmers.

AS Dhatt, additional director of research (Horticulture and Food Science), and Abhishek Sharma, virologist, Department of Vegetable Science, PAU, have been instrumental in developing the Punjab Nawab variety of pumpkin.

Dhatt said this pumpkin variety was suitable for rainy season due to tolerance against pumpkin yellow vein mosaic virus.
