Sandeep Bains, dean of College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has called upon students to secure admission in the community science programme of PAU as it would provide them an opportunity to pursue a career of their choice.
The community science, earlier known as home science, is an interdisciplinary programme, which covers a wide spectrum of subjects and is a blend of science and art, she said. The degree in community science will cater to the needs of community, in respect of women empowerment, youth development, social welfare, skill development, health upliftment, consumer awareness and environment protection.

About the course
- Community science is an interdisciplinary programme
- It covers a wide spectrum of subjects and is a blend of science and art
- BSc (Hons) in community science is a four-year professional degree programme with five core subjects—apparel and textile science, food and nutrition, family resource management, human development and family studies, and extension education and communication management
- The eligibility criteria for admission to this programme is Class XII qualification or an equivalent degree with science subjects (physics, chemistry, biology/maths/agriculture/home science), with at least an aggregate of 50 per cent
- Interested candidates would have to appear for a Common Entrance Test
- A degree in Master’s and PhD programme, in any of the above mentioned core subjects, is also available
