The PAU police station registered a case against a man who duped a business woman of Rs 16.75 lakh. The case was registered after a thorough investigation carried out by the Ludhiana police.

The booked accused was identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of BRS Nagar.

The complainant Harpreet Kaur, a resident of Sarabha Nagar, said that she took one portion on rent in South City in front of Country Homes West Gate, Ludhiana. With the consent of the landlord, she got the renovation done and spent Rs 33,50,000. It was decided between her and the landlord that whenever the landlord would ask her to vacate the property, he would be liable to pay the Rs 33,50,000 spent on renovation to her and if he let out the property to some other tenant, then he (tenant) will also be liable to pay her the same amount.

Harpreet Kaur added that after sometime, the land owner gave the said portion to Gurpreet Singh on rent. Gurpreet Singh entered into a written agreement with the complainant on paying Rs 33,50,000 to her and was to use the premises as it is with fixed furniture.

“Gurpreet paid Rs 16,75,000 to me and took the premises. But later on, he flatly refused to pay the remaining amount. I then lodged a complaint and requested for appropriate legal action against him,” stated the complainant.

Meanwhile, District Attorney (Legal), in his opinion, stated that the complainant submitted during the inquiry that Gurpreet Singh alleged that the complainant removed the furniture and electricity meter which was in her name from the premises and was now asking for the bar licence from the complainant which was issued in her name. This is the reason why he was not paying the remaining amount to her. The DA Legal further stated that the Inquiry Officer submitted in his report that this was never a clause of agreement that the complainant will give bar licence to Gurpreet which was issued in her name and the electricity meter was removed by Gurpreet Singh himself. The complainant has not removed any furniture. The facts have been verified by a gazetted officer and in view of the allegations mentioned in the complaint, a prima facie offence in his opinion under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC is made out against Gurpreet Singh.
