Ludhiana, February 20
Jaspreet Kaur, PhD student of Department of Microbiology, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, has been awarded with “S Jawahar Singh and Mrs Satbachan Kaur Young Scientist Award” for presenting original research work at the 22nd Punjab Science Congress, 2019, held at DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jalandhar.
She was awarded a certificate, a medal and cash prize of Rs 7,500. She is currently pursuing research on “Development of bacterial consortium to improve green manure decomposition and nutrient availability in kharif maize”.
She has isolated bacterial culture from undisturbed natural environment and functionally characterised them for their ability to enhance green manure decomposition. The application of developed bacterial consortium in field decreased the decomposition period of green manure as well as improved the soil nutrient status that consequently showed positive effect on maize yield.
The research work was conducted under the guidance of Dr SK Gosal.
Dr Shammi Kapoor, Head, Department of Microbiology, congratulated Jaspreet on her achievement.
