PAU signs MoA with Bengaluru firm

Ludhiana: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has entered into a partnership with Tokita Seed India Private Limited, a Bengaluru-based firm for the commercialisation of chilli hybrid CH-27.



Ludhiana: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has entered into a partnership with Tokita Seed India Private Limited, a Bengaluru-based firm for the commercialisation of chilli hybrid CH-27. 

The Director of Research, PAU, Dr NS Bains, and Mallikarjun C Gadal, a chilli breeder with Tokita Seed India Private Limited, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in the presence of the Dean of College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Dr Ashok Kumar.

Dr Bains congratulated the proprietors for sharing the responsibility of disseminating technologies developed by PAU. Adjunct Professor of Technology Marketing and IPR Cell SS Chahal said: “The university has signed 212 MoAs and commercialised 50 technologies. The university has also signed 17 MoAs for the licensing of CH-27.”

The assistant vegetable breeder, Dr Salesh Jindal, said CH-27 was a high-yielding hybrid with multiple resistances to leaf curl virus, fruit rot and root knot nematodes. He said the plants continued to bear fruits for a long time and its fruits were light green, long and medium in pungency. The hybrid was suitable for powder-making and processing purposes, he added. 

The Head of Department of Vegetable Science, Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, said chilli hybrid CH-27, developed by PAU, was a high-yielding variety being widely accepted by farmers in the north-western part of the country. — TNS
