LUDHIANA: Karamvir Singh Garcha, a student of vegetable science at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has brought laurels to the university by bagging the prestigious Prime Minister Fellowship for his doctoral research.

Karamvir Singh Garcha, a student of vegetable science at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has brought laurels to the university by bagging the prestigious Prime Minister Fellowship for his doctoral research.

The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and private partner Beauscape Farms, awards this fellowship for four years.

Karamvir will work on “enhancing productivity and industrial sustainability of snack seeded pumpkin through interspecific hybridisation”, under the supervision of AS Dhatt, senior vegetable breeder-cum-head of the Department of Vegetable Science.

Hull-less seed of pumpkin seed is a rich source of health, enhancing fatty acids and is in high demand by snack seed, bakery and oil industry.

Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; Gurinder Kaur Sangha, dean, postgraduate studies; and NS Bains, director of research, congratulated Karamvir and his guide and wished them good luck for their future endeavours.
