The students of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) who have been protesting against certain decisions taken by the university authorities continued their protest for the second day today. The students are opposing the decision of implementation of uniform for the students from the next semester, denial of entry of four wheelers of students in the university campus, etc. Though the university authorities have accepted the demands of students, except allowing entry to their cars in the university campus, the students said they would continue their protest until their all of their demands are met.

In the morning, the students assembled in the university campus and began the protest march. Later on, the a delegation of students held a meeting with the university authorities, including Registrar Dr RS Sidhu, PAU Estate Officer Dr Vishavjit Singh Hans, Director Extension Dr JS Mahal and Deans of various colleges.

“The university authorities told us that no decision has been taken to make uniform compulsory for the students from the next semester. They also accepted our demand of permitting the students to park their vehicles near Nescafe, but the authorities said they would not allow the cars of the students to enter the university campus,” said the university students who took part in the meeting.

The students, however, were adamant on their demand to allow entry of their cars in the university campus. “As the university authorities have refused to accept our demand of allowing entry of cars in the university campus, we have decided to continue our protest. We have asked the authorities to either ban the entry of all the cars in the campus or allow entry of students’ cars in the campus too. Our protest would continue until our demand is not fulfilled by the authorities,” said the students.

Hans said no decision has been taken to make uniform compulsory for the students. “We have also accepted their demand of permitting parking of their vehicles outside Nescafe. But the students would not be allowed to bring their four-wheelers in the university campus as this decision has been taken to make the campus four-wheeler free,” he said.
