Ludhiana: The Sadar police have nabbed a drug smuggler and recovered 1 kg of ganja from him. He has been identified as Sabodh Kumar of Phullanwal. The investigating officer, ASI Jagdev Singh, said the police received secret information that the suspect was a drug smuggler. Accordingly, a naka was set up on the Dhandra road where the suspect was cornered and the ganja recovered from him. He was on the way to deliver the ganja to his clients. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspect. TNS
Boy booked on kidnap charge
Ludhiana: A 13-year-old girl was kidnapped by a man on the pretext of marrying her. The suspect has been identified as Arjun Singh of Paramjit Colony. Vijay Kumar told the police that on September 22, his daughter Divya left home saying that she was going to her friend's house to collect some books but didn't return home. He said the suspect kidnapped his daughter as he wanted to marry her. After registering a case, the police launched further investigation. TNS
Online training for farmers
Ludhiana: A total of 55 farmers attended a five-day online training course on 'Cultivation of Mushrooms for Winter Season' that concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Saturday. The course was held under the guidance of Dr Jaskarn Singh Mahal, Director of Extension Education, PAU. Addressing the farmers, Dr Tejinder Singh Riar, Associate Director, Skill Development, said the course was designed to support contemporary agriculture. Couple alleges assault by kin
Sahnewal: A villager of Chandran in Koom Kalan has filed an assault complaint against his brother and sister-in-law over a property dispute. A case been registered. Avtar Singh, son of Harnek Singh of Chandran village, told the police that his brother Lakhvir Singh and his wife Sarbjit Kaur abused them and attacked them with iron rods. TNS

Sangrur BPDOs on strike
Mandi Ahmedgarh: Showing solidarity with colleagues in other parts of the state, Block Development Panchayat Officers in Ludhiana and Sangrur have started an indefinite strike. Call for a statewide strike was given by the state body of the Block Development and Panchayat Officers Association Punjab on Friday afternoon to protest against government’s recurring tendency to appoint unauthorised officials as BDPOs.
