Poet Zafar gets ‘Punjabi Shiromani Kavi’ award

Noted Punjabi poet Jaswant Singh Zafar, Deputy Chief Engineer, grid construction circle of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, here, has been conferred with the ‘Punjabi Shiromani Kavi’ award by the state government.

Awards in various categories for the past six years were announced on Thursday.

The poet has written four Punjabi poetry books, three prose books and a play.

Many of Jaswant Zafar’s writings have been translated into Hindi, English, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, Odia and other Indian languages.

The award includes Rs 5 lakh in cash, a citation and a shawl.
