The poll campaign for Dakha byelection ended on Saturday. The polling will be held on October 21. The police carried out a flag march at Mullanpur-Dakha town today. The Dakha SHO, Kikkar Singh, said around 300 cops, including policewomen, participated in the flag march. In all, 11 candidates are contesting the Dakha bypoll. Candidates of political parties conducted roadshows, held meetings and campaigned door-to-door. They appealed to voters to support them in the bypoll.

Choose progress, says Cong’s Sandhu

The Congress candidate, Captain Sandeep Singh Sandhu, today held meetings at various villages and appealed to voters to support him. The post on his Facebook page states, “My humble appeal to people of the Dakha constituency to choose progress and prosperity by voting for the Congress on October 21st. This is your chance to make a true difference and bring development home.” Sandhu also promised building a technical university at Sidhwan, a government hospital, a modern bus stand and fire station among other things in Dakha constituency.

SAD’s Ayali holds foot march on last day

Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali held meetings at various villages on Saturday. He visited Chak Kalan, Jangpur and Mullanpur town and other areas for campaigning. He along with workers also conducted a foot march while appealing to the people to support him. He thanked party workers and supporters for coming forward in the poll campaign.

APP’s Simrandeep promises development

Simrandeep Singh of the Apna Punjab Party (APP) met people in various villages of the Dakha constituency. Senior party leader Balkaur Singh Gill also campaigned for him. “The successive governments have failed to ensure development in villages. I have promised residents of the Dakha constituency to ensure overall development. We don’t have to distribute money or drugs for votes. We have to save our country and state,” said Simrandeep Singh.

Jain demands free and fair election

Independent candidate Jai Parkash Jain, who is popularly known as ‘Teetu Baniya’, campaigned in various parts of Dakha today. He demanded that the Deputy Commissioner should ensure free and fair election in Dakha constituency. “Many outsiders, who are supporting various political parties, are still in the Dakha constituency areas even after end of the campaign period. They should be sent out of the constituency to ensure polling in a peaceful environment,” said Jain.

Our fight is against corruption, says Chak

The Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) held a roadshow in support of the party candidate, Sukhdev Singh Chak, in the Dakha constituency on Saturday. The LIP chief, Simarjeet Singh Bains, appealed to voters to support Chak in byelection.

The roadshow started from Baddowal and passed through various villages, including Issewal, Purrain, Sidhwan Bet, Swaddi Kalan, Chowkiman, Kular, Rakba, Mohie, Jodhan and others.

MLA Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains thanked supporters for running the party campaign. Simarjit said, “Our fight is against the corrupt system and drug menace.”

Chak blamed the Congress government for failing to eradicate drugs in the state. He further slammed the government for not providing jobs to unemployed. He also alleged that some candidates were distributing drugs and liquor to lure voters. “We will be working to bring reforms by eliminating corruption,” he added.

Bhagwant Mann appeals to voters

AAP state convener and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann campaigned for the party candidate Amandeep Singh Mohie in 25 villages of the Dakha constituency today. Mann appealed to voters to support Amandeep in the byelection. Punjabi songs were played during Mann’s roadshow, which passed through various villages. Mohie said the roadshow passed through Dhoorkot, Chhapar, Sidhwan Bet, Mullanpur-Dakha and other areas.
